SSISBC is a non-profit society committed to supporting Sixties Scoop Survivors in British Columbia. Through education, cultural connections, and healing ceremonies, the organization provides Survivors with safe spaces to reconnect with their roots, reclaim their identities, and heal from the intergenerational impacts of the 60’s Scoop .

Their mission, “For us, by us” reflects their focus on empowering Survivors to move from survival to thriving, offering opportunities, to rebuild cultural and personal connections that were disrupted during the Sixties Scoop Era.

Turning Survivors into Thrivers

This initiative is part of the SSISBC’s broader Turning Survivors to Thrivers Project, supported by a generous grant from the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada (NSSHFC). This program focuses on investing in the health, healing, and wellness of Survivors, their descendants and their Families.

Other key activities under the project include:

Wellness Wednesdays: Open sharing circles for survivors to discuss Sixties Scoop topics, money management, historical context, and emotional support.

Mental Health and Wellbeing: Providing Survivors with resources to navigate reunification processes, reclaim cultural identity, and foster healing.

Why this matters to NSSHFC

The SSISBC’s work aligns closely with the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada’s mission to promote healing, education, and reconnection for Sixties Scoop Survivors. Through programs like this, we continue to support Survivors and their families, in reclaiming their identities, addressing intergenerational trauma, and fostering resilience By investing in cultural education and healing opportunities, projects like Turning Survivors to Thrivers contribute to the broader journey of reconciliation and awareness.
